Examine maternity and newborn care through the sciences of pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period. The proposed outline places respectful care, family communication and timely referral within Southern African health services. Midwifery learning must progress from scientific understanding and simulation to supervised practice within an approved professional education programme.
