About the course
Develop nursing understanding of mental-health needs, therapeutic relationships and recovery-oriented support. The proposed outline considers individuals, families and communities in Southern Africa. It gives attention to dignity, language, social conditions and continuity of care, with all clinical learning situated within an approved professional nursing programme.

Requirements
This provisional specialist outline assumes a recognised nursing qualification, current professional registration and relevant clinical experience. Exact entry and scope require Nurses Council of Zimbabwe or the applicable national regulator approval. BMIT must resolve whether the catalogue title describes post-basic training or another authorised route.

Assessment and practical learning
- Proposed assessment: written case analyses, knowledge assessments and discussion of evidence and professional responsibilities.
- Observed simulation followed by assessed practice at an approved clinical site, with an authenticated competence portfolio.
- An applied service or evidence-review project. Clinical and final assessment requirements must be approved by the education provider and relevant regulator.
Practical application
Clinical practice requires approved services, qualified mental-health nursing supervisors and direct assessment. Students must not diagnose or provide unsupervised specialist care. Confidentiality and consent apply to all cases and research. BMIT must clarify whether the intended route is initial psychiatric nursing or post-basic specialisation.
